Find Ms. Gina: A Free States & Capitals Game for Your Classroom

Find Ms. Gina States & Capitals Game for Your Classroom

Memorizing all 50 states and capitals is one of those classic classroom units that’s important — but let’s be honest, it can also be pretty dry. Flashcards work, but they don’t exactly get anyone excited to keep practicing.

So we built something a little more fun: Find Ms. Gina, a free hide-and-seek game where Ms. Gina hides somewhere on the map, and it’s up to your students to track her down.

How it works:

  1. Ms. Gina gives a clue — the name of a state capital.
  2. She’s hidden somewhere inside that state on the map. Students have to actually spot her, not just click anywhere in the state.
  3. Find her, and a card pops up with the state, its capital, and a quick fun fact.
  4. Miss, and the spot flashes red — try again until you track her down.
  5. Find her in all 50 states to win.

It’s the same spot-the-character energy as classic hidden-picture puzzles, just built around states and capitals instead.

Two difficulty modes:

  • 🌟 Easy (state glows): the correct state lights up faintly, so younger students or first-time players can focus on spotting Ms. Gina instead of hunting for the right state too.
  • 🔥 Hard (map only): no highlight at all — students need to know the state before they can even start looking. A good fit for review before a quiz, or for older grades who want more of a challenge.

There’s also a hint button if a round is taking a while — Ms. Gina gives a little wiggle to help students zero in.

A few ways to use it in class:

  • A quiet, self-paced activity during independent work time
  • A whole-class warm-up, projected on the board with students calling out capitals
  • A no-prep sub-day activity — no login, no setup, just open the page
  • Informal review before a states/capitals quiz

No account is required, and no student data is collected or saved — it’s free, ready whenever you need it, and works on desktop or tablet.
